Biography
Gorana Law is a Croatian-British abstract painter whose work pulses with energy and movement. Working primarily in acrylics, she uses unconventional tools to create bold, layered paintings that invite close-up viewing. With over 25 years as a graphic designer, she brings a refined understanding of composition, colour and visual impact to her art.
Gorana's Mediterranean-inspired colour palette, and seascape motifs, draw from a childhood spent on the sun-drenched Croatian coast. Water is her lifelong obsession, from crashing waves to melting glaciers, always explored through movement and emotion.
Her process is gloriously experimental. Hair combs. Kitchen utensils. Silicone wedges. Baby wipes. Splatter, drips, sprays. She works with acrylics like she's conducting a storm, building dynamic, layered paintings that feel spontaneous and intentional at the same time.
Her influences span Abstract Expressionism, St Ives legends like Wilhelmina Barns-Graham and Peter Lanyon, contemporary colourists like Barbara Rae, and Croatian abstraction pioneer Edo Murtić.
Gorana’s paintings are in private collections in Croatia and UK and have featured in group exhibitions, such as: Renaissance at the Seventh Circle gallery in Birmingham, Winter Folk at the Courtyard Gallery in Solihull, Gallery in the Glass at Resorts World Birmingham, and Summer Exhibition at the Stoneleigh Arms Art Space in Leamington Spa. Gorana took part in Birmingham Open Studios 2026, showing her new body of work and demonstrating her techniques to visitors.
